At the end of August I was off to Fishtoft in Lincolnshire, just outside Boston, to photograph the Lincolnshire wedding of Sophie and Martin. It turned out to be one of the hottest Saturday’s we had during 2012 – although it didn’t have much competition!
Sophie and Martin had booked me in 2011 to cover their wedding and we met for the first time when they came up to Norwich for their pre-wedding shoot which we did in the grounds and cloisters of Norwich Cathedral. They are a really great couple and clearly very much in love.
The ceremony was to be held at St Guthlac’s church in Fishtoft with a marquee reception in the grounds of Sophie’s parents nursery/farm.
I started coverage of the wedding at Sophie’s parent’s home with the final stages of her preparations and some photographs of Sophie with her family. Even by then it was clear that the day was going to be a scorcher!
It was the off to catch up with Martin in the pub just down the road form the church. Martin is South African and there was a large contingent of his family over from South Africa for the wedding – I think they brought the weather with them!
Sophie arrived at the church in style. A huge, bright red tractor driven by her father – you needed a ladder to get up and down from the tractor cab! It certainly made a refreshing change from the limousines, etc that are normally used.
The service in St Guthlac’s was beautiful and after everyone had congratulated the bride and groom afterwards it was time for Sophie and Martin to make their departure. Yes – you guessed it – in the tractor with Sophie driving wearing bright yellow Hunter wellies!. Apparently Sophie had her tractor licence before she was old enough to drive on the road.
When everyone had got back to the marquee I had arranged to shoot the handful of family group shots before the wedding breakfast. As the nursery/farm boasted a backdrop of 5 acres of greenhouses I photographed the groups while perched 12 feet in the air in a wooden box strapped to a fork lift! The things I’ll do for a photograph.
All in all it was a great day. My best wishes to you both, Sophie and Martin.
